Shtinkykat is Now Without A Cat

I put my cat MJ to sleep today.

He stopped eating on Saturday. He ate a little bit Sunday morning, which made me wonder whether he was just being finicky. But he stopped eating and drinking all together.

He defecated all over my bathroom mats during the wee hours of the night. When I pulled him away from the mat to clean, he wobbled a bit and collapsed from hunger and dehydration.

In hindsight, it was probably not the most financially prudent thing to have paid $650+ on a cat sitter while I was on business travel during the past month-and-a-half. But at the time, I just couldn't put him down when he was still eating and drinking.

It's unseasonably warm outside, but it feels really cold in my apartment right now... RIP, MJ. You were such a good friend and companion.

P.S.
I looked at the balance of my dwindling pet fund - - $206.05. Yesterday's office vist cost $205 - - $45 office visit + $60 euthanasia + $100 cremation. Oddly coincidental.

I'm sorry your kitty had to go. It's not an easy thing, I had to put my dog down last year (he was old and not recovering from a 6+ month long illness). It sucks. But I think you did the right thing with the sitter - he was eating and at least he got to hang out a little longer before he decided he was done.

I'm so sorry to hear about MJ. My Tiger went to kitty heaven last month, and it's such a tough decision. :(

I'm so sorry. I had to put my cat Elmo to sleep at the end of Jan and I still miss him. He had a big personality and "took up" a lot of space. It's such a hard decision, but I think it was best that you were there with him and not a stranger. I couldn't bear the thought of not being with them at the end. Take care.

I'm sorry to hear about your cat. I think you did the right thing also - don't worry about the $$ for the sitter, it wasn't quite time yet.

**hugs**

Condolences, Shtinkykat, and more condolences. Those critters - they just steal our hearts, don't they? And then they up and break our hearts! It just isn't fair.

Take comfort that you gave a nice fluffball a nice home for a long time. That's all any animal can hope for, and then some. Think about how much more nicely MJ lived than his ancestral predecessors. I'm sorry you have to do without him now, though.

Oh, definitely saddened by the news. :( I am really sorry to hear the kitty had to be put to sleep.

I'm sad too. Bought some fish from Petsmart and they infected my fish. Whole tank minus 4 fish = dead. (and the store didn't even apologize! - gats!)

The happy news, I treated the remaining 4 fish and they are happy now. :)

Hope u feel better.

Oh honey, I'm so sorry. I was wondering how he was doing. It sounds like he had a long and happy kitty life, you did the best you could for him. My mom had to put one of her dogs to sleep last month and it about killed her, she was hysterical. It's one of the hardest decisions we ever have to make.

MJ - not gone, just gone ahead.

So sorry to hear about your cat. I had to put my cat Ellie down a few years ago. She was beautiful and a diva!! I know how you feel. By the sound of it he was ready to go. It doesn't make it any easier though.

I just started reading, but I wanted to express my sympathy for your loss.

Losing a pet is one of those things that doesn't sound too hard until it happens. It's one of the reasons I haven't pushed Chad into getting one right now.

Anyway, I hear that all dogs go to heaven, so the same must be true for cats - I guess they keep them in separate pen.

*hugs*
